About Us

Welcome to High View Hill Longhorns. We are located in NE Kansas. and this is a little bit of our story.

The Crook family has lived on the same farm since it was purchased in 1947 by Howard’s grandparents. The farm was originally a row crop and dairy. The dairy shut down in 1963 and became primarily a row crop, Hereford cattle along with horses. At this time the farm was named High View Ranch.

After many years passed, 8 homes have been built and 30+ family members now reside on the farm, it has become better known as Crook Hill to our small community.

Howard has for many years wanted a Texas Longhorn in the pasture for “yard art”. He has always had an affinity for westerns and knew he did not want just “black cows that have black babies”!

In 2018, he, retired from federal employment and finally talked his wife into the idea. After Nicole agreed, he quickly convinced her that the longhorn is a herd animal and they should get at least two. (You can imagine just how happy she was!).

After a little research, Howard & Nicole pulled the trigger on two registered Texas Longhorn Cows. The only catch…one cow had to be sold with her Dam. This is where Howard & Nicole’s oldest son Jeremy and his wife Audrey come in. Audrey didn’t even run it by Jeremy before saying YES! So, in 2021, we made our first purchases of 3 cows with calves at their side. On this day, we found ourselves brainstorming for a ranch name and brand. We all knew we wanted to incorporate parts of the past & present farm names. From there, High View Hill Longhorns and the HVH brand were decided upon.

As anyone that gets into this business knows, it never just stays as pasture art. An obsession and addiction came very quickly. We have spent the last few years after our first purchase educating ourselves, seeking guidance from more knowledgeable mentors and attending several futurities and sales.

We are a small, family operated ranch with an ultimate goal of raising quality registered Texas Longhorn Cattle with a focus on soundness, large frames, attractive coloring, docile temperament and of course, competitive horn growth.

We have met so many great people along the way. Even the grandkids, Ashtyn, Brantley and Cooper (Jeremy & Audrey’s children) have gotten in the mix and purchased their first cows.
